Carlos Garza, born on May 29, 1981, in Monterrey, Mexico, is a distinguished trumpet player with a rich musical heritage that traces back to his family, where both his father and uncles are accomplished trumpet players. From an early age, Carlos was immersed in the vibrant life of a musician, attending nightly events, parties, and concerts, which fueled his passion for music.
Initiating his musical education at the tender age of 8 under his father's tutelage, Carlos was gifted his first trumpet, a mid-level Conn Director, marking the beginning of his musical journey. By the age of 13, he was performing at social events in Monterrey, exploring various music styles and honing his versatile music skills. His formal musical education commenced at 16, when he enrolled at the Superior School of Music and Dance in Monterrey, briefly delving into classical music.
At 17, Carlos joined his first Latin music group, specializing in salsa, a venture that lasted five years and profoundly influenced his musical direction. During this period, he drew inspiration from iconic musicians such as Arturo Sandoval, Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen, Wynton Marsalis, James Morrison, Rafael Mendez, among others.
Carlos's dedication and talent led to a significant milestone at the age of 18, when he became the 4th trumpet in the municipal band of Monterrey. By 23, he had ascended to lead trumpet, a role in which he flourished as a soloist and collaborated with big band legends.
Throughout his career, Carlos has been a sought-after session musician, contributing to the works of numerous Latin artists, including Susana Zabaleta, The Claxons, Jumbo, Panda, Alicia Villareal, Kumbia Kings, Band of Bitches, Plastilina Mosh, Ricardo Arjona, Ana Gabriel, Gloria Trevi, Ana Barbara, Pedro Fernandez, Juanes, Armando Manzanero, Ana Cirré, Rodrigo de la Cadena, Tatiana, Jonaz, La Casetera, Santa Fe Klan, and many more.
Currently, Carlos is the principal trumpet of the Latin music band "La Casetera," with whom he has toured extensively in Mexico and the United States for the past six years. Over his career, Carlos has performed with an array of professional trumpets from renowned brands such as Yamaha Xeno, Schilke B1, Cannonball 789RL Big Bell, Harrelson Bravura, Stomvi Master, Schagerl Meister, and XO Brass.
In 2024, Carlos met Steve Bell at the annual TMEA convention in San Antonio, Texas. This encounter led to the creation of the "RED HERON," a trumpet designed by Steve Bell to meet Carlos's unique playing style, offering a versatile instrument that excels across various musical genres with its distinctive and exceptional sound.
Offstage, Carlos is a devoted family man, blessed with five beautiful children—three daughters and two sons. His life was further enriched upon meeting Adalia Salas in 2015, his beloved wife, who has been his steadfast support and the love of his life, significantly enhancing every aspect of his personal and professional journey.
